Activities and Events

It is important to us that our residents remain active to enhance their quality of life.  Our Activities Department consists of four full-time staff members who develop a full calendar of activities for this purpose. Some of the regular activities the residents enjoy are:

Fun Games –  Bingo, Wii competitions, card and board games, horseracing, auctions, “Price is Right,” “Family Feud,” and “Are you Smarter Than A 5th Grader?”

Religious Activities – services, Bible studies, hymn singing, Rosary, weekly communion.

Daily Volunteer Visits with over 175 volunteers.

Weekly Pets-on-Wheels visits.

Companion Radio Programming – radio stations geared toward the senior population for daily listening, that includes a variety of games, senior news, Broadway musicals, mystery stories, various eras of music and specials.

Exercise Groups for the Body and Mind – Physical Strengthening: bowling, volleyball, stretches, dancing, charades, parachute activities, basketball, and horseshoes.  Mental Strengthening: trivia, problem solving, “Blurt it Out,” “Fill in the Blanks,” “You Be the Judge,” reminiscing and memory recall, word finds, and crossword puzzles.

Outdoor Events – bus outings, patio parties, ice cream rides and picnics.

Themed Parties for Residents and Families – circus, Magic Day, Kentucky Derby, Western Hoe Down, Renaissance, Mardi Gras, Disney Day, 50‘s Sock Hop, Hawaiian Luau, Apple Festival, and Pirate Party.  Special celebrations are also held for holidays, such as Mother’s Day brunch and Christmas dinner.

Monthly Entertainment – dancers, band concerts (including country, bluegrass, classical piano, jazz, swing, 40’s and 50’s performances), visits and performances by students from local schools, and jugglers.

Other Things… cooking groups, arts and crafts, book club, poetry and story writings, tea parties, Happy Hour parties with karaoke, film festivals, ice cream sundae parties, pizza day, birthday parties and more…

In addition to the above events, St. Mary’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center holds monthly Community Council meetings to provide the residents the opportunity to share their opinions, suggestions, and concerns regarding activities at the Center.
